As you may or may not know, philanthropy has been a big part of my life for a long time. I've found that artists like myself are uniquely positioned to raise awareness and make a difference in our own communities and beyond. As such, about a year ago, I decided to make philanthropy a more permanent part of my life by establishing the SOS Foundation. The goal here is to use music, both recorded and live, to raise money for causes I'm passionate about. With the help of some amazing people, I'm happy to announce the upcoming release of the first SOS Foundation record. This is a follow up of a record we put out years ago called SOS:Save Our Soul, which was a covers record. This new record will be similar except that we dug a little deeper into history and pulled together a fantastic playlist of cover songs ranging from Wilson Pickett, Solomon Burke, Aretha Franklin and many more. Most importantly, 50% of all profits will go to our charitable partner, City Of Refuge. City Of Refuge is an Atlanta, GA based organization that does some of the most comprehensive work, dealing with homelessness and poverty, in the country! My first encounter with COR was 2 years ago when I performed for one of their fundraisers in Atlanta. I was able to meet with the folks that work there and the folks that are served by the work that COR does. I was so impressed with what I saw that day that I began to research more about the group and, needless to say, became convinced that I wanted to get involved in any way I could. Through vocational training, youth education, and lifetime job placement assistance, COR is more successful at getting people permanently out of poverty than any other program I've ever seen. You can see for yourself the amazing work they're doing at City of Refuge .

| For Gadditude, his tenth outing as a leader and second for BFM Jazz, world class drummer Steve Gadd got a little help from his distinguished friends – guitarist Michael Landau, keyboardist Larry Goldings, trumpeter Walt Fowler and bassist Jimmy Johnson. Together they had already established a high degree of bandstand chemistry as the touring band for superstar singer-songwriter James Taylor. That goes a long way in explaining the sense of comfort and ease from track to track on this relaxed session recorded in just one week at Landau’s home studio. “It was like a big family affair,” says Gadd. “It’s fun to get together with people that you care about, that you trust musically and just share the energy and try to make the music the best that it can be.” Like no other drummer on the scene over the last four decades, Gadd has an uncanny ability to get ‘inside’ a tune. Let's face it: one of the reasons why rock bootlegs, despite their illegality, exist (and will no doubt continue to exist for many years to come) is because so many rockers never record live albums. A rocker's truly hardcore fans cannot be satisfied having studio recordings alone, and in many cases, bootlegs are the only place to hear recordings of the artist performing live. But an absence of legal, commercially available live recordings is not a problem for Flickerstick, who came out with Causing a Catastrophe -- Live in 2002 and Live from Atlanta in 2007. Longtime fans have been debating the merits of the two live albums; both have their charms, and while Live from Atlanta isn't perfect (neither was Causing a Catastrophe -- Live), it is still a generally respectable document of Flickerstick on-stage. The surprising thing about Live from Atlanta is the fact that it isn't just a "play the hits for the fans"-type affair. Sure, there are inspired performances of Flickerstick favorites such as the melancholy "Sorry...Wrong Trajectory" and the dark-humored yet poignant "Chloroform the One You Love." But many of the songs are previously unreleased. Instead of using the studio to unveil new material, Flickerstick use a live album to do it -- which is rare but not unprecedented -- and most of the new songs are well-crafted examples of their melodic, introspective approach to alternative pop/rock. Live from Atlanta also contains a new studio recording: a likable, catchy Beatlesque rocker titled "Helicopter." But the live performances are, of course, the main reason to obtain this 60-minute CD, which serious Flickerstick aficionados will enjoy, imperfections and all.
