All You Need Is Love is the definitive photographic journey through The Beatles iconic performance on June 25, 1967 for the 'Our World' satellite broadcast, the first live international satellite broadcast ever to take place. The book is a painstakingly restored and remastered publication, a visual diary which chronicles the rehearsals and live performance of 'All You Need Is Love', performing to an estimated worldwide audience of 400 million people.
The Beatles were signed by the BBC as the United Kingdom's representatives in the programme, which featured contributions from 14 countries worldwide showcasing the best that nations had to offer. "It was the first worldwide satellite broadcast ever," Ringo Starr said. "It's a standard thing that people do now, but then, when we did it, it was a first. That was exciting - we were doing a lot of firsts."
John Lennon penned the song especially for the event, as directed by the brief given to the band by the BBC. The song had to be simple with a positive message that viewers would understand. Broadcast at the height of the Vietnam War, this performance of the song and the message which it conveyed, became one of the defining moments of the 1967 'Summer of Love'.
Working with archives and colleagues at Rex Features, The Science Museum, MTV, Rolling Stone Magazine and the BBC, authors Paul Skellett & Simon Weitzman have pieced together the narrative and visuals surrounding the rehearsals and live performance. The result is a beautifully crafted visual timeline documenting The Beatles' part in this historic event.

A new restored and remastered photographic journey documenting The Rolling Stones event held on December 11th 1968 at the Intertel (V.T.R. Services) Studio, Wycombe Road, Wembley.
Legendary performers of the day, including Beatle, John Lennon, Cream guitarist, Eric Clapton, The Who, Marianne Faithfull, Jethro Tull (featuring Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi on guitar) as well as The Rolling Stones themselves were all captured by Randolph in pin-sharp quality. He managed to eavesdrop on them relaxing, rehearsing, and philosophising and witnessed first-hand, and up-close the performances, highlights of which included the “super group”, Dirty Mac, which comprised of Lennon, Clapton, Jimi Hendrix Experience’s drummer, Mitch Mitchell and The Stones’ Keith Richards. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus was also the last time that Brian Jones was seen strumming his guitar in public.
Thought lost for many years, 1991 saw the last publication of a selection of some of Randolph’s snaps. Disgruntled by the inferior effort, “Badly designed, poorly reproduced” he thought, Randolph elected to place his original, priceless, highly-treasured negatives of that historic day into safe-keeping, deeming they will never see the light-of-day again. However, that changed in the Fall of 2014 when music historian, archivist and author, Keith Badman approached him with an idea to dust-down his most prized snaps and allow, for the first-ever, interested publishers to digitally restore them for a definitive publication of the event. After much deliberating, Randolph assented. His only caveats in agreeing to participate in such a project was that it will be of the highest possible quality and forever serve as the final, most definitive visual account of The Stones’ legendary event…. and these releases are just that. Randolph’s images have never looked so good.
An informative, behind-the-scenes account of the Circus film will accompany the images.
This inspired and insightful book is beautifully and elaborately designed by Paul Skellett, know for his distinctive Archivum books on The Beatles (Eight Arms to Hold You, All You Need is Love and Tom Murray’s Mad Day Out). The book is narratively illuminated by Keith Badman, the author of several pop culture books, including The Beach Boys, Beatles Off the Record and Good Times and Bad Times: The Definitive Diary of the Rolling Stones 1960-1969.
Pictures and text combined, this will indeed serve as the ultimate deluxe publication of The Stones’ Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus, the very last major UK pop/ rock get-together of the 1960s, when some of the world’s best musicians of the day came together to play for one last time.
This edition of the book will not be released in stores, so it will be another true collectible. It also comes in a presentation slipcase. In keeping with our policy of producing uniquely collectable books, none of our fan editions feature an ISBN number. The books are numbered D1-1000 and are signed by the authors.
