Like its sprawling hometown of Dallas, Texas, cinematic indie rock band Beekeeper Spaceman’s self-titled debut album evokes a never-ending collision between bucolic bygones and the urban present.
Born out of an online multimedia project called Fire Bones, the duo—primary songwriter/ singer/guitarist Greg Brownderville and producer/multi-instrumentalist Spencer Kenney—have shared bills with artists like Erykah Badu, Leon Bridges, Shakey Graves and Black Pumas, and have been lauded in both local music outlets (Dallas Observer, Central Track) and national literary publications (Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Virginia Quarterly Review, LITHUB). Brownderville is editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Southwest Review and author of three books of poetry, while Kenney fronts a solo electro-pop project under his own name and is involved with a variety of acts on the Dallas-based Dolfin Records label.

Leslie Stevens' Sinner on CD.
Released on August 23, 2019
At the center of Leslie Stevens’ music is that notoriously heart-catching voice. She can belt it out grandly when she wants to, but the Los Angeles singer also possesses a distinctively honeyed tone that imbues her new album, Sinner, with a radiant charisma that sparks both ebullient love songs and more intimate ballads.
Stevens’ voice is so beguiling that she has developed a thriving sideline as an in-demand singer who has recorded and performed with a litany of disparate musicians, including Florence + the Machine, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Father John Misty, Jenny O., Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Jonny Fritz, and John Fogerty.
Stevens might be a singer’s singer, but it is her bold original songwriting that elevates Sinner from a merely dazzling vocal showcase into an artistically ambitious, poignantly affecting and sometimes startling work. The new album is released on LyricLand LLC and out on Thirty Tigers/The Orchard, and Stevens is scheduled to head out on the road for a series of European festivals in August and September 2019.Produced by Jonathan Wilson (Dawes, Roger Waters, Father John Misty) — who added to the record’s moody atmosphere by playing a variety of instruments (guitars, bass, drums, percussion and even Mellotron) — Sinner is a stirring statement of purpose by the native Missouri singer.
Stevens’ two previous full-length recordings — Roomful of Smoke (when she fronted the beloved country-rock combo Leslie Stevens & the Badgers) and her first solo album, The Donkey and the Rose — led Los Angeles Times to declare that she is “one of the city’s best” and L.A. Weekly to anoint her as Best Country Singer in 2018. But Sinner represents something of a daring step forward for the singer-guitarist. Brave lyrically and vulnerable in spirit: Leslie never shies away from laying down what’s what, if only to leave a mark on the most golden part of your soul.

Blackout is From Ashes to New's return to their roots, a fresh spin on the sound that broke them onto the scene. Angst and unrest is at an all time high worldwide and so the record was written to capture those feelings, to put them into music. An album that encapsulates the distress of the 2020's with a sound reminiscent of the 2000's. Heavy driven music coupled together with angsty lyrics that all walks of people can find common ground with.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: From Ashes To New utilize their outlier perspective to break boundaries. The Lancaster, PA band churn out an anthemic hybrid of hard rock, hip-hop, electronic, and alternative with enough energy to inspire you to get up, move forward, and maybe even, make a change. The group has risen from humble beginnings to the top of the 21st century rock vanguard with hundreds of millions of streams, radio hits, sold out shows across the country, and acclaim from LoudWire, Alternative Press, and more. With hit singles like “Nightmare” and “Heartache” paving the way for this new project, From Ashes To New return with BLACKOUT, a return to their roots, a fresh spin on the sound that broke them onto the scene. Angst and unrest are at an all-time high worldwide and so the record was written to capture those feelings, to put them into music. THE RESET EP

With a 30-something year career in the music industry David Myhr has really only one goal left, “to keep making the kind of music I want to listen to”, says the former Merrymaker. And that he does on Everything Is All About You, his 3rd solo album proper, arriving physically September 18 and digitally October 2 via Oglio Entertainment.
“Inspiration can strike at any time,” he says. “If I’m lucky, I’m alone and there’s a piano nearby. I collect small ideas that later come together into songs.”
These days, David often shares those ideas with like-minded collaborators.
“I don’t have a message to convey to the world beyond the musical one, and what matters to me is the final result. So I often choose, much like Elton John and Benny Andersson, to work with people who have a gift for words.”
Bill DeMain (Swan Dive, Marshall Crenshaw, Boo Hewerdine, Kim Richey) returns to the team with wordsmithery on the two first singles – the Beach Boys flirt “Summer Summer Summer” and the sunny ”Take a Run at the Sun”. But also, on the album’s focus track, the third single “Say Yes”, the American songbook style surprise “Continethntal Drifter”, and the cute father-daughter ditty “Doodlebug”.
“His lyrics contain equal parts melancholy, romance, and hope. There’s no lack of darkness, but in the end there’s always a sense of light, and that suits me well. Some people think music needs to contain darkness to be moving. But, unlike others, my songwriting isn’t therapy, where I constantly have to process events from my life. What moves me is music that takes me somewhere else and lets me drift along. That’s what I want to achieve with my own music.”
But it’s not just lyrical collaborators this time around. While David continues his fruitful co-producer alliance with Andreas Dahlbäck (Per Gessle, Julian Lennon), they have slackened the reins enough for a number of collaborators to leave their mark.
“Even though I’m the artist on the album cover, I don’t have to do everything myself. I can handpick co-writers, musicians, and arrangers who help give each song exactly the frame it needs. It’s a great feeling that so many accomplished musicians and songwriters want to work with me. I take that as a sign they like my songs… it can hardly be because they see me as a cash cow!” David laughs.
The Los Angeles-based Frankie Siragusa (The Posies, The Lickerish Quartet), a gifted multi-instrumentalist with a similar love for melody & harmony, has left significant production fingerprints on the album.
“Frankie recorded a huge number of overdubs for us to work with. The same goes for Brad Jones, who describes his contributions as ‘the icing on the cake,’” David smiles. Jones (Josh Rouse, Matthew Sweet, Jill Sobule) co-produced and co-wrote songs on Myhr’s previous Lucky Day album (2018). On Everything Is All About You, Brad has co-written the heartening and uplifting ”Someday Soon”, the minor key ballad ”Crystal Is Thinking of Something" and the rockin’ title track "Everything Is All About You"
Likewise Iain Hornal (10cc, Jeff Lynne’s ELO) layered up vocal harmonies on the lead track “Summer Summer Summer”, just like Linus of Hollywood (Bowling For Soup, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cheap Trick) on the co-write “Milk & Coffe”, and so on. “It was a true joy, almost like a Chrstimas gift, to open the session files from all my collaborators. I completely trusted their own creative process. And I was always very pleased to hear what they came up with!”
The album’s closing track, fittingly titled ”Finally”, is a co-write with Swedish film composer Jimmy Lagnefors (with whom he wrote the heavily ELO-inspired film song ”Spellbound” back in 2016). David describes the song with tongue-in-cheek humility:
”It’s a follow-up to ’Yesterday’"
Despite the extensive contributions of others, David’s unmistakable melodic sense shapes the album and his distinctive pop voice leads the tour-de-force of classic, timeless pop/rock songs. The pursuit of the Perfect Pop Melody never ends but with this collection of songs, David Myhr comes closer than ever before.
